COVENTRY: On Aug. 5, Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated damage to a wall outside a Markey Street residence by a truck driver. Deputies responded to a dispute involving a customer and employee at a South Main Street gas station Aug. 7. Conflicting information was provided. The customer stated she would file a complaint with the business’ corporate office. A West Long Lake Boulevard man reported Aug. 8 someone drilled a hole in the gas tank of his vehicle. On Aug. 10 a West Pace Avenue man reported someone has been entering his home while he is away. An East Vista Street woman reported a gun, case and ammunition were stolen from her bedroom while she slept Aug. 10. A vehicle abandoned near the intersection of South Arlington Road and Interstate 77 was towed Aug. 10. A West Willow Drive woman reported Aug. 11 someone used her personal information to open a bank account. Also on Aug. 11, deputies investigated a report that a trespasser left a cellphone, gas can and car battery outside a South Main Street business. Deputies responded to a report that two men who drove a silver Ford Explorer pickup truck with damage to the driver’s side fender and red paint on the passenger side of the bed tampered with contents of mailboxes on West Olden Avenue Aug. 14. They fled when confronted. On Aug. 16, deputies investigated the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle outside a Manchester Road residence. A Portage Lakes Drive woman reported Aug. 16 photos and personal documents were stolen from her apartment.

GREEN: Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies advised a former employee not to return to a Town Park Boulevard restaurant Aug. 9 after the manager reported the Akron man had been trespassing. A Buckingham Circle woman reported Aug. 9 she heard a noise outside her window. Deputies checked the area and advised her to notify them after viewing surveillance video from her camera. Loss prevention agents at a Corporate Woods Parkway store reported Aug. 9 a man failed to scan cases of liquor on five occasions, causing a loss of $98. Deputies issued a warrant for the Sonehurst Road man’s arrest on charges of theft. On the same date, it was found an Ashland man stole $442 in items from the store on 21 occasions and deputies issued a warrant for his arrest. Deputies investigated the theft of a 2005 Yamaha TTR125 motorbike from the back porch of a Mayfair Road residence Aug. 9. On Aug. 11, a Carlile Drive woman reported she received a call from someone who notified her that a fraudulent purchase had been made on her account at an online marketplace and convinced her that the problem could be corrected if she wired money to a bank in China. The victim went to her bank and wired $99,000 to the bank. When she got home, she was notified by her bank that the transaction had been canceled due to incorrect information at the foreign bank. She lost no money and realized it had been a scam. A man reported Aug. 11 he saw a man in a small red car take a traffic cone belonging to the city from Highpoint Drive and drive away. On Aug. 12, deputies investigated the theft of a catalytic converter from outside a South Main Street business. On the following day, an employee reported an electric powerbox had been cut and copper had been stolen. A man reported he left his cellphone in an East Turkeyfoot Lake Road gas station Aug. 12 and several hours later he tracked the phone and found it had been in Cleveland and Jackson Township. An employee of an Arlington Ridge Road hotel reported the catalytic converter was stolen from his vehicle Aug. 13. Deputies arrested a Christman Road woman for theft of merchandise worth $317 from a Massillon Road store Aug. 13. Employees of a South Main Street restaurant reported Aug. 14 a man repeatedly called the business and harassed employees. Deputies attempted to call that man and left a message asking him to contact them. A Sara Drive woman reported Aug. 14 a strange man was sitting in a chair on her porch and refused to leave, saying he had no place to go. He fled when he learned she called deputies, who searched the area for the man. On Aug. 18, deputies arrested a Massillon Road man for theft of items from a Massillon Road store and advised him he is banned from the business.

LAKEMORE: Police responded to a call from a Canton Road restaurant employee July 22 who stated an older male co-worker made inappropriate comments toward him, including threats of sexual abuse. The caller said the co-worker has made similar comments in the past but they were not reported. Police investigating a stolen trailer parked at an abandoned house July 23 found it was not stolen, but the license plates on it belonged to another vehicle. The trailer was towed and police contacted the owner of the plate. Police responded to a Main Street store Aug. 5 for two juveniles caught shoplifting. They were charged with theft and released to their parents. Police were called to a Canton Road store Aug. 12 for a suspicious person. The Youngstown man tried to steal an item and was arrested for theft and criminal damaging. A driver was stopped by police at a Canton Road convenience store Aug. 17 for driving without headlights. The Stoner Street man reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana after officers noted the odor of marijuana and a glass marijuana pipe was found in the center console. The man was released with verbal warnings for driving an unsafe vehicle, having only one functioning headlight and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. A South Street resident reported someone damaged his flowers Aug. 19-20. Police were called to a Main Street business Aug. 19 for an assault. Based on witness accounts, police identified a man from 15th Street in Akron as a suspect but were reviewing surveillance video before charges are filed.

NEW FRANKLIN: Police responded to a South Turkeyfoot Road home Aug. 13 for a report of prescription drug theft. A Uniontown man stated a woman who lives at the residence stole more than 200 pills from the glove box of his vehicle while it was parked in her driveway. A Texas man was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while impaired Aug. 15 when he was pulled over at the intersection of West Turkeyfoot Lake Road and Boston Avenue for traveling 51 mph in a 35 mph zone. He reportedly slurred his words and appeared intoxicated, failed field sobriety tests and tested more than twice the legal limit on a Breathalyzer. A Stump Road man reported being scammed out of $1,700 by someone who contacted him by mail Aug. 15. The letter reportedly came with a check for $1,700 that the scammer said the man could cash if he “advertised a local decal on his truck.” The man was reportedly instructed to deposit the check and send the scammer a copy of the deposited check and his banking information. Police were called to a Vanderhoof Road home for a loose dog Aug. 17. The dog owner arrived and was charged with failure to confine or restrain the dog.

SPRINGFIELD: Police warned a woman to cease sending unwanted texts to her mother after the mother reported several instances of harassment to police July 26. The mother stated at one point her daughter threatened to come to her house against her wishes. Police told the daughter she faces telecommunications harassment and criminal trespassing charges if the communication continues. Also July 26, a truck driver reported finding the catalytic converter stolen from his box truck while the truck was parked at a Pickle Road school. The driver said he parked the truck in the school parking lot July 22. A driver was pulled over July 26 when police saw her pull out of a mobile home park and make a turn without signaling. The driver said she and her passengers were making deliveries and gave officers permission to search the car. They found trace amounts of a white crystal-like substance in a vial, but no one was charged and it was confiscated. Police were called to an East Waterloo Road home July 26 for a dent to a trailer. The caller reportedly named a person but no evidence was found to implicate them. A South Arlington Road woman reported her car was stolen July 26. She told police her keys were inside the car at the time. Police noted that in May the woman had reported the same car stolen by a person she knew. However, she told police she knows that person did not take the car in this instance. Police questioned a woman who was seen on South Arlington Road store surveillance cameras going through a reported stolen purse July 26. The woman denied taking anything from the purse, stating she only looked inside to identify the owner. No charges were filed due to lack of evidence. Police attempted to apprehend a man on a warrant out of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office July 27, but the man fled into the restroom of a Shanafelt Avenue business. The man exited after several minutes and police found a glass pipe in the toilet and another glass pipe and marijuana inside a book bag the man had dropped outside the building. The man was turned over to deputies, with no additional charges filed. Also July 27, a woman reported her Ohio Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit card was fraudulently used by someone who made online orders at a South Arlington Road store totaling $205. A Clairmont Avenue woman was arrested for stealing a power tool from a South Arlington Road store July 28. The woman also had an active warrant for a traffic offense out of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and her driver’s license was suspended, and was advised. Also July 28, a driver was pulled over for swerving. The Sterling man told the officer he had a suspended license, and a bag of methamphetamine was found in his pocket. The man’s passenger, a Buttercup Avenue man, was also found with methamphetamine and a needle and was arrested for possession of drugs and drug abuse instruments. A driver was pulled over July 28 for driving outside marked lanes. The officer had also reportedly seen the passenger and driver change places behind the wheel in a parking lot when they saw his police cruiser. The driver refused permission to search the car and a K-9 was called to do an open-air search. A crystal-like substance wrapped up in a black bag was found inside, and the passenger, a Green Bay, Wis. man, reportedly admitted the drugs were his and was arrested for drug possession and drug trafficking and taken to the Summit County Jail. The woman was released with no charges. Police responded to reports of a man trying to break into vehicles and a house on Rhoadesdale Court July 28. The man was found to have active warrants and was in possession of a smoking pipe. He was charged with drug paraphernalia possession and taken to the Summit County Jail. An East Waterloo Road resident reported her mailbox was damaged July 28-29. A man called police July 28 to report he was verbally abused. He said a driver sitting in an SUV in front of Springfield Lake was playing his radio loudly and he told the driver he was violating a noise ordinance, and the driver reportedly became angry and male racial remarks.
