Infinity Ward have revealed four of the brand-new Field Upgrades coming to Modern Warfare 2, so here’s everything you need to know.

Field Upgrades return in Modern Warfare 2, and Infinity Ward have revealed four of the new gadgets arriving in CoD 2022’s multiplayer. Here’s everything you need to know about the Field Upgrades unveiled so far.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s gameplay has been revealed, and we now know a ton about Task Force 141 and its mission. While Modern Warfare’s campaigns are held in high regard, it’s multiplayer that keeps CoD players coming back year after year.

CharlieIntel joined content creators to check out Modern Warfare 2 early, and Infinity Ward revealed a ton of new details about the game’s multiplayer. Confirming that Field Upgrades are returning, the devs detailed some of the brand-new gadgets coming to CoD in 2022.

Here are all of the new Field Upgrades confirmed for Modern Warfare 2 so far, and how they work.

Rainbow Six Siege players will be familiar with Modern Warfare 2‘s Tactical Camera Field Upgrade, and it might prove especially effective in the Siege-esque Prisoner Rescue mode.

Players can throw the Tactical Camera up on a wall and then can look through it to spy on the enemy. Players can throw multiple cameras around the map and cycle through them, pinging anything the camera sees.

These cameras will have a battery life so they won’t be around forever and will beep when an enemy walks in front of them.

The Drill Charge is another concept Siege players will be familiar with, as it shoots a grenade through the wall that detonates on the other side.

This offensive tool will be especially effective against vehicles as players can stick it to the vehicle, where it’ll fire a grenade inside, killing everyone. However, it doesn’t do much damage to the vehicle itself.

Modern Warfare 2’s DDOS device is essentially the EMP from previous CoD games, disrupting nearby equipment and vehicles.

Anyone holding the DDOS Field Upgrade will receive a HUD pop-up informing them whether there’s nearby equipment or vehicles to hit. Any cars hit by the DDOS will stall, and the driver will need to follow a button prompt to restart the engine.

The final Field Upgrade confirmed for Modern Warfare 2 is the Inflatable Decoy which mimics an enemy soldier, distracting the enemy.

The Inflatable Decoy will rapidly inflate when an enemy walks by, auto-orientating towards them. Players can manually deploy the Decoy if they want, though.

Also, the Decoy will inflate into a crouched position if in a tight space and will mimic a swimming position if in water.

Don’t be surprised to also see these Field Upgrades in Modern Warfare 2 which has been confirmed to arrive in 2022.

Infinity Ward confirmed that destructible environment will not appear in Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer, and players couldn’t be happier.

Infinity Ward have dropped destruction as a feature from Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer, and fans of the franchise are overjoyed with its exclusion.

Every year the Call of Duty franchise attempts to blend its classic formula with innovative features. Infinity Ward already revealed that a ton of new features will make their way to Modern Warfare 2 including new movement mechanics, newly designed AI, and a new Gunsmith system.

However, not every new element is an immediate success for the franchise, and in the past, we’ve seen players complain about new additions like Vanguard’s destructible environment. Luckily, the devs have confirmed that destruction will not be included in Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer.

Vanguard’s multiplayer hasn’t been the most popular offering the Call of Duty franchise has put forth. Players have been frustrated with some of the game’s features including the destructible environment.

It didn’t take long for Vanguard players to lose patience with the inconsistent physics involved in breaking the destructible environment.

Thankfully, you won’t have to deal with destructible environment in Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer mode as Infinity Ward confirmed that the feature would only appear in the game’s campaign.

CoD fans voiced their opinions concerning the announcement on the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit, and the reaction was extremely positive.

Straight away it seems players will not miss the inconsistent feature, “Vanguard’s wooden walls that you could run through were very gimmicky and I am glad they are not back.”

Some offered their thoughts on why the devs came to this decision, “no way the game would run well on last-gen if destruction was a thing in multiplayer with how much they are pushing graphics and gameplay.” With Modern Warfare 2 set to release on last-gen consoles, it makes sense that destruction would be an issue to implement consistently across the board.

The Call of Duty franchise is known for providing high-quality realism in their games, but one player reminds us that while realism is important, some ideas sound better on paper, “destruction is one of those things that sounds great on paper but in execution in a competitive multiplayer game it becomes a nightmare to balance.”

Most players seem genuinely excited to discover what Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer has in store, and if the devs continue to make decisions that streamline gameplay then the sky is the limit.

Infinity Ward revealed a ton of details about Modern Warfare 2’s campaign, so here’s everything we know so far.

Call of Duty’s Modern Warfare series has always been known for its incredible campaigns and we now know a ton about what 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 has in store. Here’s a first look at MW2’s characters, missions, and storyline.

Modern Warfare 2 has officially been revealed, with Infinity Ward dropping the gameplay trailer on June 8 and a campaign mission being shown off at the Summer Games Fest on June 9.

CharlieIntel were able to get hands-on with Modern Warfare 2 in a creator session with Infinity Ward. Here’s everything we learned about Modern Warfare 2’s campaign such as the characters, missions, and overall plot.

Of course, there will be minor spoilers for Modern Warfare 2’s campaign here, you’ve been warned!

When we last checked in with Price at the end of Modern Warfare 2019, he was assembling Task Force 141 to combat the threat posed by Zakhaev junior. Modern Warfare 2 picks up three years later with 141 fully formed and operating worldwide.

While plot details are thin at the moment, Modern Warfare 2’s storyline kicks off after a US strike kills a foreign general. This nation promises revenge, and Task Force 141 teams up with Mexican Special Forces to stop the threat.

Task Force 141 aren’t the close-knit unit we’d expect, with Ghost often working as a “one-man army” who “won’t see eye to eye with the group.” After the discovery that the terrorist group Al-Qatala are working with Mexican Drug Cartel ‘Las Alamas,’ Ghost realizes he can’t do everything alone and reaches out to Colonel Alejandro Vargas of the Mexican Special Forces for help.

The campaign will see Task Force 141 travel around the world over the course of the campaign, visiting the Middle East, Europe, Mexico, and the United States.

Modern Warfare 2019’s campaign was designed to be “provocative” and put players in uncomfortable positions, but Modern Warfare 2 sees Task Force 141 doing “heroic and badass things,” but they’re “humans, not superheroes.”

SAS Captain John Price is the leader of Task Force 141 and has a complicated relationship with authority, often preferring to get the job done in his own, sometimes unconventional, way.

Price has his own sense of morality, understanding that war isn’t always black and white, explaining in MW 2019: “One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.”

Sergeant Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick joined Captain Price’s Bravo Team after Al-Qatala’s attack on Picadilly Circus in Modern Warfare 2019.

Sticking with Price throughout the mission to recover the stolen chemical weapons, Gaz was his first choice to join Task Force 141.

Soap was the main playable protagonist of the original Modern Warfare trilogy and returns in the second installment of the reboot.

Described by Price as a sniper and demolitions expert, Soap will likely be taking on Task Force 141’s more stealth-based missions in Modern Warfare 2’s campaign.

Not much is known about Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley, other than he works as a lone wolf who doesn’t always see eye to eye with the rest of Task Force 141. The campaign will see Ghost realize he can’t always be a one-man army and brings Vargas into the fold.

Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas is a brand-new character for Modern Warfare 2, brought into the fold by Ghost.

We don’t know much about his character yet, but his knowledge should be vital in Task Force 141’s fight with Las Alamas.

Modern Warfare 2 will also introduce another new character – Graves. Described as an ally to Task Force 141, Graves is a private military contractor with Shadow Company.

Shadow Company helped General Shepherd betray Task Force 141 in 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 but with the new timeline and continuity, we’ll need to wait and see if they can be trusted.

In Modern Warfare 2019, Kate Laswell was the Supervisor of the CIA’s Special Activities Division and had a close working relationship with Price, giving him clearance to form Task Force 141.

Three years later in Modern Warfare 2, Laswell is a CIA Station Chief and will be in the field with Task Force 141.

Infinity Ward took the opportunity to show off Modern Warfare 2 gameplay at Summer Game Fest on June 9 with a campaign mission called Dark Water.

The mission takes place on the US Atlantic Coastline, following members of Task Force 141 as they board an enemy rig to disarm a missile.

The mission looks intense, with rainy weather and strong winds pushing huge cargo containers all over the place. There are aspects of both stealth and chaos in the mission, with explosive barrels being shot in a shootout.

Nightwar is an action-packed mission in Modern Warfare 2’s campaign, where the player takes charge of Soap.

This mission takes place at night time when an allied helicopter crashes into the area as Task Force 141 moves in. After using night vision to clear out a building full of terrorists, 141 moves to secure the downed helicopter.

As the helicopter is swarmed by a ton of hostiles, the mission ends with a rocket hitting the chopper.

Although long-time CoD players will recognize ‘Wet Work’ for the multiplayer map, it’s a campaign level in Modern Warfare 2 that shows off the new swimming and water mechanics.

Wet Work is a stealth-based mission set in Amsterdam where the player takes control of Gaz as he and Price are looking to find out who is smuggling on behalf of the terrorists.

Much of Wet Work takes place underwater, with Price advising Gaz to stick to using knives to keep things stealthy. Using the water as cover, Gaz moves around the area silently dispatching targets one by one, pulling them down into the water for a silent kill.

This level features several different mechanics such as the ledge hang and underwater shooting and wraps up when Price and Gaz discover that the terrorists are using the Mexican Cartel, ‘Las Alamas,’ to smuggle goods.

Modern Warfare 2’s Tower mission takes place in a major city, but we’re not sure which one. In this level, players rappel down the side of a building and have full control over how they repel – head first or feet first.

This mission allows players to tackle it in their own way, with a variety of different play styles shown off.

Although we don’t know its official name, the fourth mission shown was vehicle-based, where the player was fighting in and out of vehicles in a convoy in Mexico.

This mission shows off all the new vehicle mechanics, where players can shoot out of the windows, climb on the roof of vehicles, and even commandeer other cars while they’re driving. The devs said that any vehicle can be driven by the player, so this is shaping to be one of the most cinematic missions in the game.

Plus, later in the campaign, there will be a level reminiscent of All Ghillied Up where the player dons a ghillie suit and teams up with Price for some long-distance sniping. The devs said that after their work on Warzone, they can make massive environments.

Here’s everything we know about Modern Warfare 2 including its release date, maps, game modes, and new features.

There’s a ton of anticipation for Modern Warfare 2, and here’s everything that we know about Call of Duty 2022 so far, including the release date, the leaked DMZ mode, and the game’s new features.

Call of Duty is heading back to the present day, with the developers officially confirming Modern Warfare 2 to be the 2022 entry in their popular annual gaming franchise, revealing the official logo at the end of April.

Modern Warfare 2‘s marketing campaign is starting to ramp up, with the devs unveiling the release date and reveal trailer. We have a ton of new information regarding MW2, including brand-new Field Upgrades.

Here’s everything we know about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty have announced that Modern Warfare 2 will be released on October 28, 2022.

The devs announced the release date through a video showing off Modern Warfare 2’s key art and characters. Modern Warfare 2 then received its official worldwide reveal on June 8 which gave players a taste of what the game will bring.

In addition, the Modern Warfare 2 campaign reveal occurred during the Summer Game Fest on June 9.

Pre-orders for Modern Warfare 2 were available as of June 8 and to secure your copy you can visit the Call of Duty store. Once on the webpage, select your platform and complete the transaction for the edition of your choice.

Activision are no longer offering multiple versions of the game. This year players can choose between two editions. The standard edition will cost $70 USD, while the Vault edition will cost $99 USD. This means there is no longer a $60 edition as the cheapest Modern Warfare 2 version. You can take a look at what’s included in both editions below.

For the first time since CoD: World War II, a new title will be available on Steam as Modern Warfare 2 returns to the platform. It’s also important to note that those who pre-order Modern Warfare 2 will receive early access to the open beta.

2022’s Modern Warfare 2 is not a remake of 2009’s Modern Warfare 2. Instead, Modern Warfare 2 is a direct sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare and as a result, it will share several characteristics with the 2019 title.

The developers stated they always take inspiration from the past, but also “want to make new things.” While certain aspects of 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 may have offered inspiration, ultimately Modern Warfare 2 is set to be a brand-new title.

In addition, Modern Warfare 2 won’t feel like a simple reskin of Modern Warfare. The devs confirmed that every aspect of the game is redone and changed.

Modern Warfare 2 will have an open beta prior to its October 28 release. While we don’t know the official date that the beta will be accessible we can use Vanguard to make an estimate. Vanguard’s open beta began on September 10 and the full game was released on November 5.

Hopefully, this means we’ll receive the Modern Warfare 2 beta during the month of September, but more on that later. Players who pre-order Modern Warfare 2 will receive early access to the open beta with PlayStation players receiving it at least five days before other platforms.

Modern Warfare 2’s campaign takes place three years after the events of Modern Warfare (2019). The story follows Task Force 141 after a US strike kills a foreign general.

The group promises revenge, so Task Force 141 teams up with Mexican Special Forces to stop the threat.

It’s worth keeping in mind that there is much more to the story that we don’t know yet, but as more information is released we’ll be sure to inform you. For more information, check out our dedicated piece on Modern Warfare 2’s campaign.

For starters, Modern Warfare 2 will feature core maps that were designed for 6vs6 gameplay and battle maps that were designed for large team gameplay. So far, five maps have been revealed and you can check out our guide on all of the confirmed maps in Modern Warfare 2.

In terms of game modes, players can expect a mix of old favorites and new innovations. Prisoner Rescue and Knockout are just two of the new Modern Warfare 2 modes that have been revealed, while Special Ops and Gunfight are set to return to the franchise.

The new content doesn’t stop there as the devs have completely overhauled the way AI will interact with players in Modern Warfare 2. You can expect AI to be much more challenging and fierce. Meanwhile, the new movement mechanics including swimming, have allowed the devs to place an emphasis on water design throughout the multiplayer experience.

Player customization is once again at the forefront of the series and you’ll have a new and improved Gunsmith system to utilize in Modern Warfare 2.

Activision have officially confirmed that Warzone 2 will be a completely new game separate from Warzone. The brand-new Warzone experience will feature “new Modern Warfare II content and systems with brand-new progression,” resetting player inventories from Warzone.

For everything you need to know about a possible Warzone sequel, you can take a look at our Warzone 2 guide where we’ve compiled a list of rumors and leaks associated with the title.

Both RalphsValve and Tom Henderson claim that classic Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps will arrive in CoD 2022.

RalphsValve leaked five maps that players can expect to see in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. These are some of the most popular ones in the entire series and we might see them return.

Here are the returning Modern Warfare 2 maps:

Returning Maps ⁃Favela ⁃Terminal ⁃Highrise ⁃Shipment ⁃Quarry

A later report from industry insider Tom Henderson, stated that these maps are set to arrive in Warzone 2, but they may not be available at MW2’s launch. Instead, players might have to wait for them to be added to multiplayer.

Furthermore, Call of Duty General Manager Johanna Faries confirmed that Highrise will be a POI in Warzone 2. It remains to be seen if these nostalgic locations will make their way to Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer.

Leakers such as Tom Henderson have claimed that Modern Warfare 2 will come with a brand-new game mode – DMZ. While we don’t know exactly what the game mode will entail, the leaker described this mode as “MWII’s take on Escape From Tarkov.”

Henderson believes the mode will have been in development for over four years by the time Modern Warfare 2 releases, and you’ll drop into several locations and will have to plunder through abandoned homes, buildings, vehicles, crates, and corpses. He also said that the area has been made up of maps from the original MW2 which act as POIs.

Modern Warfare II's third mode is currently called the DMZ. It's not entirely clear if that's the codename or not yet, but DMZ is MWII's take on Escape From Tarkov.

Reputable leaker TheGhostOfHope also implied that the comparisons of this brand-new Modern Warfare 2 game mode to Battlestate Games’ Escape From Tarkov are accurate.

Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ reportedly also features a marketplace where players can go to purchase and sell items. When you drop into this game mode, you can head to the marketplace to “earn skins, blueprints, and more.”

At the time of writing, it’s unclear whether this marketplace will require players to spend CoD Points or if the developers will introduce a brand-new in-game currency to use.

Skill-based matchmaking has been one of the most controversial aspects of Call of Duty titles, and a report from CoD leaker ‘RalphsValve’ claims that the developers could be aiming to revise the SBMM to be “less debilitating” in Modern Warfare 2.

According to this leak, the devs aim to make games feel less strict, but Modern Warfare 2 could still keep the controversial feature of disbanding lobbies after each game comes to an end.

On May 20, Tom Henderson claimed that Pro Perks were a part of the recent Warzone 2 playtests. These were superior versions of standard Perks in the original Modern Warfare 2.

While these are expected to appear in Warzone, the industry insider claimed that they could also make their way to the MW2 multiplayer as a shared feature.

Latest rumors suggest Pro Perks might return in #Warzone 2. Good thing or bad thing? pic.twitter.com/ZMm4vZIySZ

Modern Warfare 2’s development is a collaborative effort between almost all of Activision’s studios, with Infinity Ward leading the charge.

Here are all of the Activision’s studios that are likely working on Modern Warfare 2:
