ANKARA, ($1=14.55 Turkish Liras) — Baykar Defense General Manager Haluk Bayraktar has announced that the Bayraktar TB3 UAV will be suitable for Japanese Izumo-class mini aircraft carriers, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, viting the Turkish online portal Savunmasanayist.

Assessing Nikkei, Baykar’s general manager for defense, Haluk Bayraktar, said: “China will not want to sell drones to many Asian countries around it, and we offer those countries a better option. Asian countries are showing great interest in our products”.

Bayraktar specifically mentioned the Izumo-class mini aircraft carriers used by the Japanese Navy. Bayraktar said: “The TB3, which will soon make its first flight, will be very suitable for Japanese Izumo-class platforms. The folding wings of UAVs will allow the carrier to accept more UAVs than fixed-wing aircraft. Japan must acquire armed drones as soon as possible”.

The Bayraktar TB3 has been developed for the landing craft TCG ANADOLU, which is scheduled to be delivered to the Turkish Navy this year. Bayraktar TB3 was developed over Bayraktar TB2; It has folding wings, a payload of SATCOM, a take-off weight of 1450 kilograms, 24-hour airtime, 6 weapon stations, and the ability to operate at high altitudes. TCG ANADOLU will be able to work with 50 to 110 Bayraktar TB3 depending on the configuration.

Bayraktar TB3 has a wingspan of 14 meters. The drone is just over 8 meters long, 2.6 meters high, and weighs 1,450 kilograms. The maximum speed that develops during the flight reaches 300 km / h, while the cruise speed is 232 km / h. It can carry a payload of 280 kg and stay in the air for a little over 24 hours.

The Bayraktar TB3 is designed to land and take off on short-haul aircraft carriers. It also has integrated functions for takeoff and landing to be automatic.

Japan has decided to transform the JS Izumo [DDH-183] and JS Kaga [DDH-184], which were previously used as helicopter carriers, into “mini-aircraft carriers” with a $ 28 million upgrade to deploy the F-35B aircraft carrier fighter jets. Officially described as a “multi-role destroyer”, the Izumo is the main ship of the Japanese Navy’s self-defense force.

The Izumo mini-aircraft carrier is capable of carrying a total of 28 aircraft. There are 5 separate helicopter landing points on the deck of the ship.

Following these upgrades, Japan’s naval self-defense forces will have a naval platform capable of carrying fixed-wing fighters for the first time since World War II. The Japanese Self-Defense Forces [JSDF], one of the defeated countries in World War II, could not have an aircraft carrier due to its constitutional limitations.

Japan said the F-35B would be “deployed on ships if necessary” due to the sensitivity of overcoming constitutional restrictions on offensive capabilities.
